Gaming Edition
Today we're looking at the redmi k50 gaming edition. Now gaming phones aren't usually my style. I'm not a big mobile gamer. I much prefer playing on consoles but since using the k50 not only have I started playing more mobile games. I've started to think. Even if you're not a massive gamer. The k50 by itself is a great value phone and if you're a serious gamer then this device genuinely packs a big punch for the price dare. I say it could be seen as a flagship killer. The price of the k50 gaming edition in china starts from around 520 us dollars and that easily puts it in the mid-range category. Now obviously this is a Chinese phone and prices are always cheaper. There compared to the rest of the world but even with a slightly higher price. I don't think. This phone is a mid-ranger. I think It could be challenging for phones that are sold at a much higher price point.
Fast charging,120 watts
You have the latest snapdragon 8 gen 1 a 120-hertz refresh rate of 120 watts. Fast charging 12 gigs of ram a new cyber engine haptic -system as well as a decent camera system plus, all of the special gaming hardware and gms and google services pre-installed on the phone and this is enough. I think to choose the k50 over a lot of other mid-range phones at the same price point. Now the average consumer looking for a new device might overlook this phone because it looks like a gaming device but there is also a black version and a silver version. which are way more stripped back. If you want a more casual-looking device but if you look at this blue variant for its pure gaming aesthetics. It achieves that look without going over the top it's subtle yet cool. You have a variety of textures all through the back panel. The carbon matte two-tone grip points the camera cutout is simple but has a slight flare to it. The only thing, I'm not a big fan of is the lightning strike flash cutout. It's a little too much for me but I think a lot of people will like it.
Fantastic hardware
Now for gamers, there's some nice hardware packed in here 120hz refresh pop-up gaming triggers vapor chamber cooling, the cyber engine haptic system, and jlb quadruple speakers. It's a lot and altogether makes for a really comfortable and enjoyable gaming experience. This is my first time using a phone with gaming triggers and it does make a difference.The triggers themselves are magnetic and pop up. When you push the sliders inwards. There is a small but appropriate amount of travel. When you push down on the triggers. Which is enough of a click to provide good feedback and even when playing a relatively simple game like asphalt 9 transferring.The controls away from the touchscreen and onto the triggers makes the whole experience far more natural. I can drift and hit that nitro button with perfect timing but for sure the most enjoyable bit of game play was on the call of duty mobile. Where using those triggers made killing the opposition so much more efficient and accurate.
Game portal
It was great. I was MVP a ton of times. The refresh rate stayed at 120 fps throughout my session and there is actually a game portal. Where you can pre-determine some of the performance parameters and launch the specific games from there. So I had all of the highest graphical settings turned on and the k50 stayed at a comfortable temperature rising to just 36.4 degrees over 30 minutes and this is probably due to the new vapor chamber cooling system. Which kept the phone relatively cool even on pubg. Which got up to 40.4 degrees at the highest settings after 30 minutes and again those triggers were awesome.
Speakers
The speakers are decent too good enough for gaming.They are quad speakers tuned by JBL.They aren't going to match the super high-end flagships but they are decent enough. The screen on the k50 spans 6.67 inches and is a 1080pamoled panel with hdr 10 plus 1 billion colors and looks great and gets plenty bright at 1 300 nits. The flat-screen design reminds me somewhat of the redmi note 11 series with slight bezels around the edges. The refresh rate is not too but can be set to dynamic and will fluctuate between 60 and 120 fps to save battery and another nice improvement. Over last year's k40 is that the k50 comes with gorilla glass victus. The rear camera system is unchanged from last year consisting of a 64 megapixel, main sensor 8 megapixels ultrawide, and 2 megapixels macro lens and although these sensors aren't going to be winning any photography awards. I think. They are still pretty decent compared to phones at a similar price. If we bring back in the recently released 60 pro with its 108-megapixel sensor. I actually prefer the shots on the k50. The blacks are slightly more crushed and I feel, there is a little bit more detail picked up compared to the honest flatter image profile as well as better focusing on the k50. The ultra wides on first look, I would say, are pretty much the same in terms of quality but as we go over more shots. I think.
Sensors
There is more detail and clarity from the k50 sensors whereas the honor 60 pro looks a little blurry. In the macro mode, however, I will have to give to the honor with finer crisper more close-up details being presented in a far more appealing style. There is a cropped zoom on both phones and the honor 60 pro goes way overboard on sharpening compared to the more natural-looking shot.We get from the k50 nighttime is actually quite an interesting comparison because the k50 gaming edition has a night mode that only takes a half-second exposure compared to the honor 60 pro. Which takes a four-second exposure and creates a much brighter image full of sharpness and yet somehow the k50 does an outstanding job with its images coming out looking incredibly natural on both. With the main sensor and the cropped in zoom on top of that the k50 can use its night mode using the ultrawide whereas the honor 60 pro is limited to just the main sensor. There is also 4k 60fps video which is fantastic for phone costing. This much footage looks pretty smooth and furthermore. You can also use the ultrawide sensor to record in the same quality which really does make this.
Camera
I think a very decent camera system for a phone. That's the main selling point is for gaming and is another reason, why I think the k50 is really worth its value looking around the rest of the phone, We have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that sits in a comfortable position and is fast and accurate and there is also a 2d face unlock feature, if you prefer also on the right-hand side. There are magnetic gaming triggers. Which can be tucked away into the frame or if you prefer.You can leave them up and assign them for quick press actions for the camera or flashlight which is pretty neat on the bottom. We have the speaker's USB c port and JBL branding on the left-hand side. There's the volume rocker dual sim card and microphone and on the top is an infrared scanner. The k50 comes with 120-watt fast charging and the wire tip is designed to be non-intrusive while you game which is cool redmi claims 17 minutes from zero to 100 but I got 21 minutes.
Battery
It also comes with a large but not super large 4700 milliamp-hour battery that has been fine and will get you through the day even with a few gaming sessions running.The k50 is miui 13 based on Android 12. Which doesn't have that many new features but has been refined to run fast and more efficiently and along with the 120-hertz refresh rate makes for a smooth experience overall. I would say the redmi k50 gaming edition is fantastic value for the price. You're getting a ton of top-end hardware features along with integrated gaming capabilities and great build quality. So even if you're not a big gamer and are looking for a phone that can outperform devices that are similarly priced and powerful.You are to the top end of smartphones.The redmi k50 is a great choice but there are always new phones being released and I will always be here to review them for you.
